After 73 years, there is now a new benchmark in Corvette performance. You've likely already heard how the new 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X sets new standards and performance records for American-built series-production automobiles, but here's another: Car and Driver recently proclaimed it's the fastest production vehicle the magazine ever subjected to instrumented testing.

According to a recent story, Car and Driver recently retested a ZR1X they'd previously tested and found a fresh set of tires and improved track conditions yielded even more otherworldly performance metrics. This time, editors managed to sprint from 0-60 mph in a retina-searing 1.8 seconds, while the 2026 Corvette ZR1X blitzed through the quarter-mile trap in 8.9 seconds at 155 mph. If that weren't enough, the ZR1X also posted a peak 1.14 g in lateral acceleration during skidpad testing.

What makes the 2026 Corvette ZR1X such a potent performance machine? Well, certainly the engine nestled aft of the cockpit is a crucial ingredient. There, you'll find a hand-built LT7 twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter, DOHC V-8, boasting a flat-plane crankshaft, which allows it to rev higher and extend its available power band.

Meanwhile, in the nose of the ZR1X lurks an electric motor, charged with driving the front axle. This additional source of motive power not only boosts the ZR1X's combined output to an insane 1,250 horsepower but also assists in improving grip and traction.

To achieve the best track results is the Custom Launch Control feature, which is standard on the 2026 Corvette ZR1X. This feature is found throughout the lineup, from Stingray to ZR1X, and manages tire spin, transmission clutch application rate, and numerous other parameters. Ultimately, this allows the driver to optimize acceleration runs by adjusting launch RPM and wheel-slip targets on the auxiliary driver's display.

To ensure that the 2026 Corvette ZR1X is stable in any condition—especially track days—you can add the ZTK Track Performance Package. This package includes Magnetic Selective Ride Control and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires.

Part of the 2026 Corvette ZR1X complete package is the extensive use of carbon fiber. This material combines strength with lighter weight. You will find it on the wheels, the aerodynamic add-ons, the spoiler, and throughout the composite body.
