In an article by J.D. Power, the independent vehicle analysis company put the Chevy Tahoe up against the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer to see which full-size three-row SUV is actually the best for buyers and why. Spoiler alert: the Tahoe very easily won this test.

Trim Levels, Pricing, and Engines

The Chevy Tahoe is available in six trims, including LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. While rear-wheel drive is standard on all but the Z71, four-wheel drive is an option. With three unique engines available, the Tahoe will fit any lifestyle. You can choose between a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, a 6.2-liter V8 that delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, and finally the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel that pumps out 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission handles the power for all engines.

Towing and Cargo Capacities

The Tahoe is a large and in-charge vehicle. With 8,400 lbs of towing capacity, you won’t have any trouble hauling the family and a boat for a fun weekend on the lake or at a campsite. Behind the third row, you’ll find 25.5 cubic feet of space that opens up to 72.6 cu.ft. when the third row is folded. Folding all rear rows will give you 122.7 total cubes of space.

Reliability and Quality Studies

When it came to the “Reliability and Quality” part of the review, two things J.D. Power takes very seriously, they talked about how the Tahoe is ranked highest among large SUVs in their 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and their 2024 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). The Jeep did not rank in the top three of either of those studies. In fact, where Chevrolet did very well above the study’s average with only 169 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), the Jeep brand as a whole was ranked third worst with 275 PP100 in the VDS. The Chevrolet brand overall ranked second in IQS with 159 PP100, while Jeep ranked 199 PP100.

Your SUV Needs to Be Your Safe Space

Arguably the most important category, “Safety and Driving Assistance” showed that the Tahoe has more standard safety features thanks to Chevy Safety Assist, plus the option of Super Cruise, the advanced hands-free driver assist technology. The Jeep, however, forces buyers to opt for a higher trim than the base to get adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.

Superior Tech Features as Standard

In the final topic, “Infotainment and Technology”, the Tahoe took the win for having Google Built-in with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard alongside a 17.0-inch infotainment touchscreen display. The Tahoe also features greater standard towing tech that includes Blind-Spot Steering Assist when towing a trailer, a trailering app that tracks the condition of your trailer’s tires, displays your total weight when towing, Boat Ramp Assist, and so much more. The driver is also treated to a configurable 11.0-inch instrument cluster display.

OnStar Takes the Cake

One thing the Chevy has that the Jeep doesn’t is OnStar, which is included as a free subscription for eight years. OnStar features a voice assistant, real-time traffic information, navigation, automatic crash response, and remote commands. So, say you lock your keys in the car, call OnStar to unlock the doors for you. What if your Tahoe has been stolen? OnStar can work with the police to give a real-time location of the vehicle and shut it down remotely.

In Conclusion

So what did J.D. Power say in the end? “The Jeep Wagoneer offers many appealing features, but the tried-and-true Chevy V8s and impressive vehicle quality and dependability tip the comparison in the Tahoe's favor.” That sounds like a ringing endorsement to us.
