2024-chevrolet-traverse-rs-driver_1.4.jpgWhen Chevrolet redesigned the all-new Traverse for the 2024 model year, designers created a vehicle that was not only larger in every way than the previous generation, but also a big step forward in terms of design and technology. The new Traverse is so good that it asks why you would look anywhere else when shopping for a true three-row crossover SUV. MotorTrend recently highlighted this fact in its review of the 2025 Traverse. Editors tested the High Country model, which had an as-tested price of $58,290.

Out with the Old Engine and In with the New

The old 3.6-liter V6 in the previous Traverse was replaced with a new, more powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder that puts out 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque, which is a gain of 17 horsepower and 60 lb-ft of torque over the old V6. Engine size doesn’t always equal more power. Paired with the new engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission that MotorTrend noted operates perfectly in all driving conditions.

A New Technology to Aid in Both Power and Efficiency

Speaking of engines, the new turbo-4 helps the Traverse be more fuel efficient across the board. Thanks to new technology called “ePhaser” from the Chevy engineers, the large crossover is able to achieve an EPA estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on the highway, when optioned with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive models will get 19 and 24 mpg, respectively. Chevrolet says the ePhaser helps to regulate the camshaft and either advance or delay the motor's spark, depending on whether the engine needs more power and torque or needs to increase fuel economy.

Cargo Space Is the New Horsepower

When looking for an SUV, you are typically trying to find the most amount of interior volume for the price. After all, a growing family will need a larger interior to properly hold kids, pets, luggage, groceries, strollers, car seats, and other cargo needs. The Traverse is not only freshly redesigned but is also wider, taller, and longer. Behind the third row of seats, there is now 22.9 cubic feet of space, just 2.6 shy of the larger, full-size Chevy Tahoe. Folding the last row down will give you 56.6 cu.ft. and 97.6 cu.ft. when all of the rear seats have been folded.

Plenty of Ways to Charge and Easier to Get In

Rear passengers will also love the extra size of the Traverse, and there are plenty of ways to charge their devices between USB-C ports for both rear rows and a 12-volt outlet in the second row. It's also now easier than ever for kids and adults to climb into the third row with the simple one-touch tilt and slide rear seats. MotorTrend said of the third row, “That mechanical ballet opens a wide passage for clambering into the third row, where the width and height of the Traverse once again pay off. The third-row seat cushion sits nice and high relative to the floor, providing a natural seating position even for adults. Outboard passengers get a cupholder and USB-C port plus an overhead climate vent ...”

Super Cruise is Beyond Amazing

The 2025 Traverse High Country comes standard with one of the most remarkable engineering feats of the modern era, Super Cruise. The amazing hands-free driver assistance technology makes long drives better and easier, especially when there’s a whole family in the car. It’s a safe and convenient way to relax on trips and enjoy a nice conversation or phone chat while the Traverse handles the highway driving. With nearly 750,000 miles of mapped roads between America and Canada, you will be able to go across the country and actually enjoy the drive.
