The 2026 Chevy Trax is a great vehicle for buyers who need the utility of a crossover but want the driving dynamics and fuel economy of a car while remaining very affordable. Car and Driver gave the Trax a perfect 10 out of 10 in its rating system, calling it the best subcompact SUV, beating out competition from Mazda, Kia, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen, Buick, and more.
Pricing and Trim Levels
The Trax starts at just $23,495, and buyers can choose from five trim levels: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. The Ecotec 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine develops 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission, with power going to the front wheels. The EPA says the Trax gets 28 mpg in city driving and 31 mpg on the highway.
A New Review by Autoblog.com
In a review by Autoblog.com, the author tested a brand-new Trax Activ trim level and said, “In general, the Trax Activ feels easygoing and confident. Steering is light but responsive, and the suspension tuning strikes a good balance between comfort and control.”
Amazing Technology
The main attraction of the Trax, though, is its tech features, including an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an available wireless phone charger, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an available WiFi hotspot.
Lots of Space for a Subcompact
The interior of the Trax is quite large, even for a subcompact vehicle, with 25.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 54.1 cubic feet with the seats folded. Rear passengers have a ton of space, too, with the backseat providing 2.5 more inches of legroom than a Mazda CX-30 and a whole 6 extra inches than a Toyota Corolla Cross.
Brilliant Standard Safety Features
Chevrolet also made the Trax very safe, with all trim levels coming standard with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Intellibeam Auto High Beam Assist. Cruise control is also standard across the range, and Adaptive Cruise Control is available on higher trim levels.
